Thursday, the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur will gradually depart the Bayou State, producing continued thunderstorm and periods of heavy rain that will reduce ozone production. Although gusty south-southwesterly winds will aid dispersion, these winds will also carry thin-density smoke into the region, increasing particle concentrations in some areas. As a result, AQI levels will be Good to low-Moderate. Friday, as a slow-moving cold front stalls across northern Louisiana, light to moderate southerly winds will continue to transport thin smoke into Louisiana. However, lingering clouds and scattered thunderstorms will limit ozone development. Therefore, AQI levels will be high-Good to low-Moderate. Saturday, as an upper-level disturbance moves through Louisiana, showers and thunderstorms will enhance atmospheric mixing, disperse pollutants, and inhibit ozone formation. These conditions will lead to Good to high-Good AQI levels statewide.
