Other Pollutants:
OZONE - 12 Good
Ground-level ozone, fine particulate matter, and coarse particulate matter concentrations may reach the Yellow (moderate) AQI category from time to time across portions of Minnesota through mid-week. A weak cold frontal passage has resulted in weak northerly winds across much of Minnesota today (Tuedsay). There are several prescribed fires ongoing as of this afternoon, the largest of which being east of St Cloud. Air quality will continue to be impacted locally for those downwind through the afternoon, including across the northern Twin Cities suburbs. Southerly winds increase on Wednesday out ahead of incoming low pressure, which will usher in elevated levels of fine particle pollution from smoke produced by wildland fires to our south. Blowing dust is also possible across southwestern Minnesota on Wednesday. Additionally, very mild, dry and sunny conditions will provide a favorable environment for ozone formation, and so Yellow (moderate) AQI is forecast Wednesday across parts of central and southern Minnesota. Showers and thunderstorms, in addition to a passing cold front, will result in improved air quality through the day Thursday, and Green (good) AQI is forecast, though blowing dust will again be possible across southwestern Minnesota prior to meaningful precipitation. A cooler weather pattern will take hold thereafter, limiting the overall potential for poor air quality.
